Yesterday was the Midsummer Feminist Party, organised by Cat Brogan to raise funds for Feminism in London 2010.
There were two workshops, one by Naomi Woddis on found poetry, and one that I led on finding inspiration in feminist libraries and archives. The picture shows my workshop plan and the Feminism in London badge that I will wear with pride on the run up to the conference in October.
We balanced word-based and image-based activities, all with a decided feminist slant. Possibly the most popular among participants was the one inspired by Louise Bourgeois’ art and ideology:
“The people I like most are interested in portraiture, the symbolic and recognisable unique essence of a person. I, on the other hand, am interested in the portraiture of a relationship, how a relationship can be twisted, the effect people have on another.” ~ Louise Bourgeois, quoted in Rainer Crone and Petrus Graf Schaesberg. ‘Louise Bourgeois: the secret of The Cells’ (Munich: Prestel, 2008).
Don’t be surprised if Friday’s prompt has a bit of a feminist angle :)
